LA23NET boards a train to learn more about the South Cumbria and Lancaster Economic Region, or as we’ve called it…the hotspot, because it rhymes with hotpot. In fact maybe a better name would be Cumberland Hotspot. A recipe for success? Oh yes.
Enough food, what are we on about. Ok, well essentially an imaginary line has been drawn around South Cumbria, Lancaster and The Bay area to create an economic region – we think it will be something akin to the Borderlands and will allow the area to attract funding and push different projects forward. Thing is, that’s only our guess. Thankfully someone who definitely knows what it’s all about is Lawrence Conway, Chief Executive of South Lakeland District Council and he’ll be telling us all about it.
CREATING MORE THAN A BRIEF ENCOUNTER
To find out more about this special place we’re going county to county, starting in one of the most perfect train stations (yes it’s the one from the film) it’s a regional treasure…Carnforth Station. Skipping along the Furness line, round the bay and over the estuary to Ulverston whilst soaking up our wonderful place, and of course some food and drink. We’ll take a break in Ulverston to hear from Lawrence all about this important new plan before heading back to Carnforth.

Things only ever change if people can see a different way of doing things, and here’s the important bit, start doing things differently. The Morecambe Bay Eden Project is a wonderful example of big thinking – it could be phenomenal and even the idea of it has reinvigorated people’s outlook for this sometimes unfairly maligned part of Lancashire. We think the new economic region and brilliant projects like this are the beginning of something special. We need to work together, dream big and get on with stuff. Never punching above our weight. Only reaching our true potential.
