Because there’s something in the air. We got to get together sooner or later because the revolution’s here!

Thunderclap. Little did you know that your 1970 song would be used decades later for pun purposes. We apologise but thank you.

Enough 70s songs. We came here to talk gin.

Fair enough. We all know by now that gin is the new black, and that it is no longer enough to order a G&T because there is oh so much more to it than that. But how did this gin revolution begin and who are the artisans making the revival of this once maligned spirit possible? Well it’s bold dreamers like Shed 1 Gin who decided to distill their way to glory.

Whilst LA23NET loves gin (and we do) we had never perhaps understood the subtlety of flavours that makes the perfect solution to a crap day so, well, perfect. Thanks to the beautiful explanations and TASTERS from Andy and Zoe Arnold-Bennett we can now sniff out a cardamon compound with no problem at all. There are millions of wine varieties to choose from so why not gin? The ingredients infused and distilled really do create complex and very different flavours and as people are drinking less today than ever (yes, really) the truth is that we’re now much more likely to choose something for taste and quality rather than price. Shed 1 Gin is a class act and it really was a fascinating night.

LA23NET ginthusiasts

THANK YOU so much Andy and Zoe it wasn’t hard learning and tasting but it was hard to choose a favourite. Our sunshiney, lively venue, The Smith – you were simply delightful – THANK YOU to Sarah, Rob and especially their lovely kids Arthur and Sophia for being such perfect hosts.

Thanks too to Andrew Gordon for standing in for our Chair Grant. You were brilliant. Grant, we hope you get better very soon!

Well done to Jess for winning the bottle of Fancy Frolic as a result of knowing rather a lot about cocktail ingredients after Andrew’s not very easy quiz and a special mention to Farraday’s Tasty for providing the smashing crisps. Pretty much all of us munched away all evening.

Don’t believe us? Check out Victoria Sedgwick’s snaps here.
