Knowing your boundaries and priorities are key to achieving a good work/life balance for Cumbrian business owners.

That’s the message from Claire Brumby who will be the keynote speaker at the relaunch of the popular LA23NET business network this week.

Claire, who is listed as one of the top ten business speakers in the country, turned her Scrubbys Crisps brand into a huge success. But it came at a cost and after surviving a life-threatening illness she has now established herself as a popular speaker, business coach and bestselling author with a book about being successful without selling your soul. She will be leading the discussion when LA23NET gathers in Kirkby Lonsdale on October 13.

The monthly meetings are now run by Cumbrian PR firm Intro and October’s gathering will be a special event with free beer and food at The Royal Barn.

Claire says: “In terms of achieving good work/life balance I think a key is to hold strong on our boundaries.

“We instinctively know when something is a push too far for us, so we have to be honest with ourselves and those around us and uphold our boundaries.

“I am a big fan of prioritising – what’s urgent, what’s important, what can wait and what can be delegated?

“This ties into the boundary. Once we know what time we want to/can allocate, that then distils us to focus on our actions.

“I think post-pandemic more people are looking for a life/work balance. Many realisations hit home for a lot of people: what’s important, what are my new non-negotiables?

“Knowing ourselves and our values helps us work these things out.

“Strong healthy boundaries are essential; they also illuminate any areas in the business which need attention.”

Helen Statham, director of Intro, said: “Work/life balance must be one of the top issues for business owners now – for our own wellbeing and for the impact it has on recruitment and staff retention.

“And because this is an LA23NET event there will be a whole load of fun stuff going on too including live music, free beers and food. It will be the perfect way to relaunch LA23NET.”

The Cumberland Building Society, Edwin Thompson and NXT Recruitment have been joined as sponsors of LA23NET by Harrison Drury.
