Our Day In Court

Hopefully you won’t have had to sit in a courtroom for the wrong reasons because on Tuesday it was great to sit in one for all the right ones!  After gin swilling and Yard 46 pizza chomping in Kendal Town Hall, we were all treated to a night no one can forget at the District Chamber hidden deep in the belly of this incredible late Georgian building. Here, sat in her rightful seat; Justice of the Peace, Magistrate, Psychologist and current High Sheriff of Cumbria, the indomitable Marcia Reid Fotheringham helped us find insight into what makes people successful.

Whatever success may mean to you, there are certain attributes that most successful people have. Marcia is better positioned than most to discuss what makes people tick; countless people have sat on her ‘couch’ and Marcia herself is no stranger to success having achieved an astonishing amount in her own life. Marcia advised us that being a successful person takes hard work, self awareness, gratitude and a whole heap of drive. Marcia also talked about ‘cutting out the noise’ and being careful which people you have in your life. As recruiters for some of the region’s most innovative companies we know she’s right, surrounding yourself with great people who want to succeed is a really important part of the journey. The businesses killing it are the ones who believe in themselves and have a team who believes too.

In a nutshell, what were Marcia’s takeaways?

3 TOP TIPS

  1. Take risks.Taking a calculated risk and having faith in yourself is the cornerstone of all growth.

  1. Accept failure. Failure is not the opposite of success it’s a huge part of it. Successful people learn, adapt and grow from it.

  1. Enjoy it. It’s crucial!

“Don’t let what you can’t do get in the way of what you can do.”

Here are just some of Victoria Sedgwick’s snaps from the night and yes, Janett and Soph did wear those outfits all night.  Make sure you don’t miss out on the next LA23NET and sign up to the newsletter below.
